Nadine Caron
Nadine Caron made history by becoming the first female First Nations general surgeon and graduate from the University of British Columbia's faculty of medicine. Born in Kamloops B.C, Nadine went on to achieve a Bachelor of Science in kinesiology followed by a medical degree as well as a masters of public health from Harvard University (1). Dr. Caron’s research focuses on Aboriginal health as well as assessment of Canadian health policies (2). While Dr. Caron is an accomplished endocrine surgeon and professor she is also a member of many committees such as the BC Ministry of Health Advisory Committee and the UBC Centre for Excellence in Indigenous Health (1). In 2020 she was named the founding chair of the First Nations Health Authority in Cancer and Wellness at UBC which looks at improving wellness and outcomes of Indigenous people affected by cancer.
